Can Small Acts of Creativity Really Change Anything?

Small creative acts might not change the world overnight, but they might change you. An exploration of creativity, resistance, and becoming.

I wish this were a guide, but it feels more like a trail of breadcrumbs. I have a hunch: that small acts of creativity, however imperfect, silly, or seemingly meaningless, might actually have the power to change something.

Honestly, I’m still figuring out what Buen Ojo is. I know it has something to do with living by our values, with creating instead of consuming, with finding beauty even when everything feels like it is falling apart. But where does it go next? That depends on us. On me and you.

This post builds on the ideas I shared in Why I’m Starting Buen Ojo, a personal story about losing (and reclaiming) my creative spark. If you want the backstory, start there. If you’re ready to explore what creative resistance might look like in your own life, keep reading.

So, welcome. As you can see, I don’t have it all figured out. I’m tired, angry, and uncertain of what will become of the world. Worried for friends, family, and strangers. But I’m also hopeful. Despite all the ugly, there is still beauty and good in the world.

At the heart of Buen Ojo is a question that won’t leave me alone: Can small, creative acts make a meaningful difference? This is all an experiment to see what will happen if we can channel our creativity. How might we support our well-being? How might we support others?

What is Buen Ojo?

“Buen Ojo” means “good eye” in Spanish. Of course, on the surface it’s obvious: a good eye has good taste. But it’s also about noticing what matters. Feeling it. Responding to it.

It’s a practice of turning awareness into action. Of seeing clearly, creating with care, and becoming more aligned with who we are.

This work happens in three small, but maybe sacred, steps:

🌿 See the Beauty

Beauty isn’t rare; we just forget to look.

Buen Ojo invites us to notice the scraps, the shadows, the soft light of morning. The imperfect and the in-between.

Beauty isn’t a distraction from what’s wrong. It’s a reminder of what’s worth fighting for.

A good eye goes beyond seeing; it responds.

Creativity becomes an offering. A protest. A prayer to the universe.

We make not for the algorithm, but for our lives. We create to align with our values, connect with others, and care for what we love.

Creativity is a practice of becoming.

We don’t need to do more, but we do need to do things differently. Our way, with compassion, curiosity, and courage.

What we make, and how we make it, shapes who we are.

Why Small Acts of Creativity Matter More Than Ever!

It feels like the world is obsessed with scale, speed, and optimization. We’re surrounded by bigger, better, faster. That’s what makes small acts of creativity feel radical. Our tiny gestures (a line of stitches, a drawing for a friend, a repaired object) remind us that the world doesn’t need to be an exaggeration. Our creativity doesn’t need to be optimized or perfect. It just needs to be real.

Every time we choose to create instead of consume, we reclaim a little more of our power.

Who This Is For

If you’re feeling burned out, overwhelmed, or just a little creatively lost, you’re not alone.

If you’re looking for a break from the hustle…

If you’re trying to rekindle that creative spark…

If you’re craving more meaning, more making, more magic…

You’re in the right place.

Buen Ojo is a space for thoughtful creatives who want to:

  • Make more, consume less.
  • Live by their values.
  • Express themselves with honesty and heart.
  • Explore sustainability from the inside out.
  • Find beauty in the everyday.

Here we grant ourselves permission. Permission to go off-script. To explore the contradictions. To make things before we understand how or why. To be honest, even when it was messy. Look elsewhere if you want a perfectly polished sanctuary. This is a space where your whole self is welcome.

About Me

Hi, I’m Haley. I’m a creative human who hates talking about herself but loves sharing ideas.

For years, I thought I needed to find the one thing I was meant to master. The more I explored, the more I realized my “thing” is curiosity. Chasing ideas. Making messes. Building beautiful, strange, small things.

Buen Ojo is my messy love letter to making. My rebellion against hustle culture. My hope is that creative acts, however small, can shape a better world.

A few facts (in the name of connection, not cringe):

  1. My first word was “no”… now I struggle to say it.
  2. I’m happiest in the sunshine with a cup of coffee, a notebook, and a new idea.
  3. I believe imperfection is where the magic lives.

Here, I will learn if small acts of creativity can change anything. I trust they will, even if it is just within myself.

If This Resonates…

Stick around. Read a post, try a prompt, or just take a breath and be. I’m really glad you’re here.
